February CE at Toni Di Napoli

February’s CE Dinner Program was held at Tony di Napoli Restaurant. President, Dr. Yi Guo, thanked Octapharma for sponsoring this evening’s event. Dr. Mariam Sydnor Anderson, a doctorate in virology, presentated on Octagam 10%. She discussed Octagam’s indication, dosing, administration, and dosage formulations.
Thu Nguyen, Pharm.D. Candidate 2018, from Touro College of Pharmacy, presented a clinical pearl the management of hypertension. Thu discussed the updated JNC8 Guidelines as well as the SPRINT trial and their impact on clinical practice.
Lastly, Dr. Kanika Ballani, Assistant Director of Pharmacy at NYU Langone Medical Center, presented about the role of a pharmacist in the investigation studies aspect of our profession. Dr. Ballani articulated the components of clinical trials and stages pharmacists are involved in. As a clinical trials manager, her role is to update the standard of practice, build protocol specific templates in the institution’s CPOE system, and take part in the clinical study protocols. Dr. Ballani foresees the pharmacist’s roles expanding within this field, especially while accommodating complex studies.

President Elect, Dr. Jason Babby, thanked the speakers and informed the audience of upcoming dinner programs for March. Dr. Guo also addressed the audience regarding the upcoming NYSCHP 2016 Pharmacotherapy Symposium: Antimicrobial Stewardship Across the Healthcare Spectrum.
