March’s CE event took place at Heartland Brewery and Chophouse in midtown Manhattan. President, Dr, Yi Guo opened the event by welcoming members and gave updates on upcoming April and May events. President Elect, Dr. Jason Babby showed us the NYCSHP t-shirts that are available and on sale online and during events. The event began with a presentation on Medicaid initiatives to improve quality care and reduce healthcare costs. Such programs include accountable care organizations (ACO), ACO risk-based reimbursement, value based purchasing, and payment bundling. Medicaid has initiated these programs to prevent hospital re-admissions in high risk populations and challenge institutions to provide quality and cost effective care. These initiatives encouraged institutions to create programs such as transition of care and thorough medication reconciliation especially in high risk populations such as congestive heart failure and diabetics. Hospitals are now rated by patient satisfaction surveys (HCAHPS hospital survey), grading hospitals on different facets of their care.President-elect, Dr. Jason Babby introduced our CE speaker, Dr. Allison Raich, PharmD, BCPS, Manager, Medication Safety and Quality, Northwell Health. Dr. Raich hosted an incredible and interactive evening of Medication Safety Pharmacy Jeopardy. Four teams battled it out to answer questions throughout the night and promote learning and discussion. The crowd of pharmacists, pharmacy managers, student pharmacists, and pharmacy residents and fellows had an exciting night networking together in their teams and among teams. Dr. Raich was an incredible host pumping up the crowd throughout jeopardy. Special thanks for an amazing evening, sharing your expertise, Dr. Raich!
