NYCSHP’s kicked off the new season with their first August networking event at Redeye Grill in midtown Manhattan. The evening began with networking among the attendees.
President, Dr. Jason Babby, welcomed the crowd and gave an update on NYCSHP events. President Babby introduced the evening’s speaker, Dr. Shawna Kraft, a clinical pharmacist and assistant professor of pharmacy at University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Kraft presented “Treating Patients on a Ixazomib (Ninlaro®) regimen”.
As the first member of its class, Ixazomib is an oral proteasome inhibitor approved for the treatment of multiple myeloma in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone in patients who have received at least one prior therapy. Dr. Kraft began the discussion with an overview of Ixazomib including the drug’s mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, role in the treatment of multiple myeloma and highlighted clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety.
Afterwards, pharmacists, pharmacy residents, and student pharmacists enjoyed a evening of networking.
