The NYCSHP New Practitioners Committee hosted their highly anticipated networking leadership program at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan this month! Over 55 recently graduated pharmacists attended the at max capacity event. The program was sponsored by Shire Pharmaceuticals and started off with a presentation by Dr. Steven Kang, MD, Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology & Blood Bank Director of SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Kang spoke about the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders, with emphasis on acquired hemophilia A and the agent OBIZUR, an anti-hemophilic recombinant factor used to treat bleeding episodes caused by acquired hemophilia A.
For the next speaker we had Mr. Frank P. Sosnowski, RPh, MS, Director of Pharmacy Services at Montefiore Medical Center present on “So You Want to Become a Leader in the Pharmacy World”. Mr. Sosnowski took the audience through his own storied pharmacy career experiences, providing examples along the way about the road he took to become one of the most active leaders in pharmacy today. Members learned much about getting involved in pharmacy organizations and the importance of professionalism and maintaining a positive attitude throughout our professional career. Mr. Sosnowski sent a truly inspiring message to all the recent graduates present that night.
A big special thank you goes out to the New Practitioners Committee Chairs Harshal Shukla, PharmD and Pavel Goriacko, PharmD for coordinating such a successful event. And of course, thanks to all the new practitioners out there for coming out and showing their support. We hope to see everyone again at the next New Practitioners program. Stay tuned!
