January Grassroots Advocacy Program

NYCSHP’s second Grassroots Advocacy Program took place at BONDST in the lower east side of Manhattan.

President, Karen Berger, was excited to welcome members of the Grassroots Advocacy Committee and prospective members together to learn more about challenges we are facing today and how pharmacists can join forces to move our profession forward.

The evening began with a legislative update by Jack Bao, St John’s College of Pharmacy, Class of 2018. Jack presented “The Blunt Truth: A Legislative Update on Medical Marijuana in New York State”.
The evening’s sponsored presentation was by Jeffrey Fudin, PharmD titled “Prescription Opioid Abuse and the Role of Abuse-Deterrent Formulations (ADFs)”.

Next, the Advocacy Program was presented by Senator Nicholas Spano, NYSCHP Lobbyist, “Lobbying 101 from the Grassroots to the Capitol and Back”. Senator Spano provided advice to new and seasoned advocacy pharmacists, and pharmacists in training, to take back to their communities to help promote change for our profession.
The second grassroots advocacy program was a success!
