NYCSHP’s Mentoring Workshop was held at Harlem Renaissance. Drs. Amber Johnson, Rosario Lazzaro, Vickie Powell, and Diana Duong presented to high school seniors about Medication Safety and Drug Misuse. The presentation began with a discussion about the role of a pharmacist, the impact we have, the education requirements, and the many diverse roles we have in our communities.
The discussion was followed by a presentation about medication misuse providing examples of the different types of drug misuse and consequences that may follow. The presentation concluded with strategies to avoid medication misuse by
1. Keeping medications to yourself,
2. Following instructions, and
3. Being a good role model.
The workshop was completed with a game questionnaire on what students learned from the presentation.
