NYCSHP held it’s second networking program at Ben and Jack’s Steakhouse. President-elect, Dr. Charrai Byrd welcomed the guests and introduced Dr. Johnny Hon to provide the evening’s legislative update.

Dr. Hon had just arrived from a legislative visit with the Chair of Health Committee, Mr. Dick Gottfried, and was accompanied by Drs. Andrew Kaplan and William Goldman.

Dr. Hon provided an update of the pharmacy technician certification and registration revisions addressing the concerns of the state education department.

Such revisions include limiting the initial certification requirements to only health-systems and compounding pharmacy technicians; defining the duties and functions of a pharmacy technician; the process of registering pharmacy technicians will follow

The evening’s sponsored program was presented by Susannah Koontz, PharmD, BCOP, FHOPA, Principal and Consultant Stem Cell Transplantation/Cellular Therapy, Koontz Oncology Consulting LLC.



Dr. Koontz has worked with pediatric bone marrow transplant and is the current president of the Hematology-Oncology Pharmacy Association. Dr. Koontz’s presentation was entitled, “A Closer Look at the Treatment and Toxicity Management of ALL”
