September BOD Meeting

We enter September with our first Board of Directors meeting of our new year. This meeting was held on September 5th at Mount Sinai Hospital with a budget meeting immediately following our monthly meeting.

Each Director-At-Large and committee leader gave a synopsis of their progress with upcoming events. As always, some non-board members were present and we’re so happy to see the growing participation. Hopefully they’ll become future board members (wink wink). Our treasurer, Amber Johnson, let us know what our budget was and where we had to cut costs. A lot of number crunching which is a pretty grueling task but we made it through.

August 29th CE Program

What an eventful month. We’re closing out with a CE program held at Mount Sinai on August 29th. The topic of discussion from our sponsor was “Reducing Complications of Influenza: Update on the Use of Antiviral Agents in Vulnerable Patients” presented by James S. Lewis II, Pharm.D, FIDSA.

We also had a Clinical Pearl presented by one of our Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy-LIU student members, BPS, Pharm.D/MBA Candidate, Ekaterina Didenko. The topic for discussion was E-Cigarette Safety Communications.

Thank you to our speakers for presenting and our members for attending this program. As always follow us on Instagram @officialnycshp for photos of this great event and the many more to follow.

Game Night and Medication Safety CE Program

And the programs keep coming! This CE program which took place on August 21st was a great way to have fun and get your CE credits at the same time. It was held at, my Alma mater, Long Island University! Go Blackbirds!

This program was special because we collabed with the Royal Counties chapter to make it happen. Teams split up to play on Jeopardy: Pharmacy Edition hosted by Amisha Leimbach, Pharm.D., CJCP and Pharmacy Feud hosted by Emily Messing, Pharm.D., BCPS.

Thank you to everyone who came out despite the rain.

New Practitioner’s Happy Hour

Hello again! Not even a week after the BOD meeting we had another event for our members to attend. The New Practitioner’s Happy Hour was held on August 6th at a cool spot called Latitude Rooftop in Hell’s Kitchen. This event was hosted by members of our New Practitioner’s committee Sefa Kploanyi and Sybil Goday-Pena. Another great turn out! This night was all about networking and just kicking back and having a good time which is what we did. We look forward to the many more events these ladies have in store for us.

Grassroots Advocacy Law CE

Our first CE for August was held on August 15th at Bobby Van’s Steakhouse in the Theater District. The program was presented by Dr. Karen Berger, NYSCHP Grassroots Advocacy Chair and Dr. Andrew Kaplan, NYSCHP Vice President of Public Policy.

The program was titled “The Grass(roots) is always Greener: NY State Advocacy Workshop“. This program was important in the fact that it encouraged our members to be more active in making a change in pharmacy and how easily you can become an advocate for the future of the pharmacy practice.
